It has been said that fluffy white tufts of snow are as close as anyone can come to fulfilling childhood daydreams about walking on the clouds. At Loveland Ski Area, 400 inches of snow each year softly decorate the mountain in these childhood dreams, bringing fantasy to reality for all visitors, skiers and snowboarders alike. Located 53 miles outside of Denver, just before the Eisenhower Tunnel in the Arapaho National Forest, Loveland Ski Area is the closest ski resort to Denver, and is as popular among tourists as it is among locals. Boasting 1,365 skiable acres, Loveland is also the tenth largest ski resort in Colorado. From the moment temperatures reach consistent lows, typically in late September, Loveland begins making snow; by mid to late October, sooner than almost every other resort in the country, this plush white heaven opens and provides all snow enthusiasts with a minimum base of 18 inches and full coverage on the 1,000 vertical foot opening day run. Once the weather begins to bring the fresh snow, this man-made snow provides the perfect base and reduces ice patches.
